Girls in STEAM


Did you know that in middle school, 74% of girls express interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), and women make up 47% of the total U.S. workforce, but are much less represented in particular science and engineering occupations? Our goal is to inspire more girls (especially underserved girls from diverse communities) to recognize their leadership skills and lean into the power of STEAM.

STEAM Committee

Our STEAM Committee members do outreach to STEAM businesses and organizations to create partnerships, schedule Field Trips, and to find opportunities to share with the middle and high  school aged girls who participate in the STEAM Academy.  They also serve as chaperones for the monthly field trips that are offered. STEAM Academy

The Women’s Foundation hosts monthly field trips focused on science, technology, engineering, and math for girls in middle and high school. We partner with local companies and organizations to provide these opportunities at free or reduced cost.

These monthly field trips are free and open to middle and high school girls. Transportation to and from the field trips is not provided.

Register below and field trip details with a required permission form will be sent to the email provided the week before the Field Trip.

Girls Leadership Institute

The Girls Leadership Institute empowers girls to be leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The program provides unique workshops for middle and high school girls including hands-on projects in the STEAM fields. Our goal is to inspire more girls (especially underserved girls from diverse communities) to recognize their leadership skills and lean into the power of STEAM.

Separate age appropriate tracks are held for a full day of STEAM and leadership training to help the girls:
  • Uncover their leadership potential
  • Gain hands on knowledge and experience in the STEAM fields
  • Utilize leadership, communication, and team building skills
