The Coalition Against Period Poverty (CAPP) is a statewide, student-led coalition dedicated to ending period poverty and stigma for Florida students through advocacy.
CAPP's was founded in 2020 by Rithika Katchem, President of Girls Help Girls at Suncoast Community High School, and Megan Enriquez, President of Period. Boca Raton at Grandview Preparatory Academy. These two dedicated individuals discovered that they were both engaged in similar efforts at their respective schools. Their shared passion for addressing period poverty inspired them to unite and expand their impact to benefit more students in their county and across the state.
Since its establishment, CAPP has experienced remarkable growth and outreach. By 2023, CAPP had successfully enlisted member organizations from various corners of the state, working collaboratively to combat period poverty, break down stigma, and ensure that all Florida students have access to the menstrual resources they need for their well-being and education.
During the 2023 Legislative Session, the Learning with Dignity Bill was passed unanimously in both chambers and was signed into law by the Governor. The Learning with Dignity Act allows public Middle and High Schools in Florida to provide period products in restrooms at no cost to students.
If you are and individual or organization interested in ensuring Period Parity for all Florida students through education and advocacy, consider joining CAPP!
