Racial Justice

Women’s Foundation of Florida Statement of Solidarity and Condemnation of Police Brutality
The Women’s Foundation of Florida unequivocally stands with the Black community. Black Lives Matter. We stand in solidarity against the ongoing systemic, implicit and, too often, overt racism that plagues our country. We know there is a better way, and we are committed to working together for racial equity and justice.

Breonna Taylor.
George Floyd.
Tony McDade.
Ahmaud Arbery.
Sean Reed.
And too many others…

We need to say their names and acknowledge the violence, injustice, and discrimination directed at the Black community.
Racism is a public health crisis that requires us to rise up against hate and violence and also challenge ourselves to look within and acknowledge our own bias. Now is the time to truly listen to what we are being told by Black individuals and community organizations and take action.

The Women’s Foundation of Florida is committed to empowering women to be leaders and change the way the world works. To achieve this mission we must recommit ourselves to also being an anti-racist organization.

We are committed to listening, learning, and acting to challenge racism in all its forms. This won’t be easy and it will require radical changes to how the world works, and we as an organization and individuals show up and act.

Please join us in this work for racial justice. Below are a few ways you can get started:

Join – Women’s Foundation of Florida Racial Justice Mailing List
Take Action –

1. Say Her Name
2. 75 Things White People Can Do for Racial Justice
3. Support black businesses and Organizations

Donate –
  • The Bail Project launched a national emergency bailout hotline anyone can call to help bail out a friend or family member.
  • You can support bail funds in your city by consulting the Community Justice Exchange’s National Bail Fund Network, which keeps a database on local efforts or donating directly to National Bail Out.
  • You can also donate directly to families of people killed by police. The families of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless other people who have been murdered by police need financial support to pay for legal and other bills.

Racial Justice Action Committee

Women’s Foundation’s Racial Justice Action Committee will be prioritizing actions organized by communities of color. We will be joining the efforts of organizations with much more experience than us in leading racial justice work. Our efforts are aimed at introducing our supporters newer to this work to these amazing leaders and organizations so you can get engaged, and we can join the important work they are already leading. If you know of an organization we should be learning from and supporting, please email us at info@WomensFoundationFL.org so we can follow up.
Black Lives Matter and we stand in solidarity with the Black community and communities of color to take action against racism, violence and injustice. Get ready to learn and get engaged.

Racial Justice Book Circle

Picture
Join the Women's Foundation and other community members to read and learn together about racial justice, white supremacy and how to take anti-racist actions through our Book Circle. We will read books and articles together, then facilitate authentic discussion about the content.  We will begin with "Me and White Supremacy" by Layla F. Saad.
The Women’s Foundation will host a Zoom conversation on Tuesday, July 14th at 6pm to check in mid-month and then another Zoom on Tuesday, Aug 4th at 6pm after we’ve completed "Me and White Supremacy: A 28-Day Challenge to Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor”
