Why is a women’s foundation needed in Florida?
The Women’s Foundation of Florida was founded in 2007 by Judith Selzer and Samantha Schosberg Feuer along with a group of local leaders who share a commitment to investing in women and girls to encourage leadership and positively affect their economic, political, and social status. We started as the Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County and recently expanded across Florida. We are currently working with small groups of women to launch programs in several new counties.
Women’s Foundations are philanthropic organizations that direct their resources to efforts that directly benefit women and girls. Forty years ago there were no funding organizations dedicated to women. Today there are over 120 such organizations throughout the country and across the world. We are proud that we have such an organization investing in women’s leadership across Florida.
Florida is home to some of the wealthiest communities in the country, but can do more to fully invest in women’s lives. Women are often most affected by poverty, pollution, lack of education, poor access to health care and much more. Yet women are also the heartbeat of our community and have the ability to transform our world for the better.
