In the Bank: A Financial Empowerment Series for Women
In 2014, thanks to a generous grant from PNC Bank, as well as additional funding from Gunster, M&V Magazine, FTI Technology, Selzer 360 and Shuster Law Firm, the Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County introduced a series of programs called, In the Bank. The goal we achieved through these programs was to help women and girls achieve financial empowerment by taking hold of their financial futures and understanding the options for overall financial security and success.
The series was held from February until April, 2014 and presented various programs to address issues pertinent to women’s financial empowerment. In March, Shelly Cabangon led the program, “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
In February, Shannon Phelps hosted, “Take Control of Your Financial Future,” during which she spoke to attendees about easy ways to manage spending, reduce debt, increase savings and plan for big purchases, such as a house or car.
“The Educated Entrepreneur” was held in April and speakers Janice Brunson and Dana Ray shared their secrets for starting and succeeding in business.
Co-facilitators, Lucy Carr and Cheryl Knapp, also in April, presented, “Beyond the Piggy Bank: Budgeting for Your Future.” This program was for girls in the 11th and 12th grades who were encouraged to bring their mom, aunt, grandmother or other female family member to join the conversation and help them learn how to save for college, open a bank account and budget for future success.
